About Me

After growing up in a little hick town called Leeds, Ala., I took my first full-time job as a newspaper reporter with the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer in 1997. I worked in Columbus for eight years before moving to Memphis to take over as full-time Outdoors Writer for The Commercial Appeal. My wife, Elizabeth, and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in January. That's pretty impressive, considering there were lots of folks who figured we wouldn't make it a year. During our 10 years, a lot of the snooty, little church girls she grew up with have been married, divorced and remarried to someone else - all looking for that big bank account. Meanwhile, we just keep rolling along together.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I'd love to meet Aaron Sorkin. He's the guy who wrote "The West Wing" television show and movies like "The American President" and "A Few Good Men." I don't always agree with his politics, but he's definitely one of the best writers of our time. In my job, I've been able to meet and spend time with people like former Texas Tech basketball coach Bob Knight, former St. Louis Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog, SEC football coaches Tommy Tuberville, Mark Richt, Mike DuBose and Pat Dye. I've also spent some time with country music singer Hank Williams, Jr., late NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, Sr., and fishing superstar Bill Dance. Dance, by the way, is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet...
