| Sleepwalkers is the dreamchild of songwriter Steven Fairweather, conceived in the cavernous recesses on the fringes of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, and reared with the loving contributions of many of Rain City’s finest musical souls. That Sleepwalkers is at once a solo project and an ample collective is entirely appropriate given the project’s paradoxical musical nature. Steven Fairweather’s compositions navigate the dark beauty of a musical landscape rich with heartache and companionship, loneliness and redemption, regret and love – all of these bedfellows at once strange and familiar. The soft, subtle songs convey a diverse range, intense, but not without irony, even humour. Sleepwalkers draws on Steven Fairweather’s tenure in such bands as By A Thread, Castle Project, and Peace and Quiet, and is aided by a sizeable ensemble cast playing instruments ranging from piano to cello to guitar and bass to drum machine.
