Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor - Image Hosting Sonia Soul has been bouncing and flowing to her own beat of life since the womb...Born February 6th 1982, Sonia Soul has the reputation of being one of the best kept secrets of Montreal...but not for much longer!!!Strong, grounded, intelligent, beautiful, talented are just a few words that begin to describe her.Sonia Soul is a woman with alot on her mind and her songs and voice show it all off.She started her career like many other artists, singing for friends and family, then proceeded to take part in a high school talent show back in 1999. Performing ''Breakdown'' (Mariah Carey), she shocked the audience two nights in a row with her small frame and powerful voice.In 2001, she left the family nest to persue her singing dream and braught her voice to the streets of the city of Montreal.
Meeting talent was part of the plan and led to great collaborations and friendships. One in particular stands out with Drum & Bass/ Reggae DJ/Producer Krinjah, with whom she recorded her first song ever ''Free'', in a small ''homey'' studio on Prince-Arthur.In 2002, while performing covers in a downtown Montreal club on opening night, she met lead singer/frontman Kali of the group Kali and Dub.
Connection was good and collaborations announced themselves to be promising.Sonia Soul joined the group and in the following year had the privilege of opening for hot acts such as Everton Blender, Toots and the Maytals and perform in Montreal's own International Jazz Festival (2005) along side fellow band members Kali and Dee'qa.2007 is declaring itself to be the year for Sonia Soul's long awaited return, after 2 years away from the stage and loyal fans.This time around, Sonia Soul confirms she stands alone in her genre with new songs like ''They'', ''Truth is Dusty'', ''Heard it all'', ''Let you know'' and many more...She has lived up to her word with lyrics that force you to look within yourself and make you relate to her concerns and growth.Listening, or better yet, seeing, Sonia Soul carry a song categorizes itself to be one of the best intimate experiences you could have. ------------------------------------C'est le 6 Fevrier 1982 que l'un des secrets les mieux gardé de Montréal voit le jour...Sa vocation s'étant dessinée depuis le ventre de sa mère, Sonia Soul, partage avec nous depuis plusieurs années, son talent et sa passion pour la musique.
Rebondissante, charismatique et douée sont quelques mots pour la décrire. Elle fait partie de ce genre d'artistes qui, une fois entendu, nous restent gravés sur le coeur...Ce genre d'artistes qui ne laissent personne indifférents...
C'est en chantant en comité privé, pour des intimes et parents proches qu'elle débute sa carrière.
Puis, en 1999, elle se produit sur scène pour la première fois lors d'un spectacle d'amateurs chantant "Breakdown" (Mariah Carey). Elle surprit le public deux soirs consécutifs avec sa stature délicate et sa voix portante.
En 2001, elle quitte le nid familial pour Montréal ou la providence lui fait faire de belles rencontres. Ainsi, de forts liens d'amitiés se créent dont un en particulier avec le DJ/Producteur Krinjah (Drum& Bass/Reggae) avec qui elle a enregistrée sa toute première chanson intitulee « Free ».
En 2002, à la suite d'un spectacle qu'elle donnait à l'ouverture d'une boite de nuit de Montréal, Sonia Soul rencontre Kali, le chanteur principal du groupe Kali & Dub. Sonia Soul se joint au groupe et, dans l'année qui suit, elle a l'honneur de faire la première partie d'artistes tels qu' Everton Blender, Toots and the Maytals et entre autre faire partie de la programmation du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (2005) sous le nom du groupe Kali and Dub. aux côtés de ses camarades Kali et Dee'qa.2007 se profile comme étant l'année du retour sur scène de Sonia Soul. Apres une absence de deux ans auprès de spectateurs fideles, elle nous revient murie en tant que chanteuse solo ayant pris le temps d'écrire des chansons introspectives faisant réfléchir et apprécier la croissance personnelle.
Avec ses chansons phares tels que « They », « Truth is Dusty », « Heard It All » et « Let You Know », elle confirme, une fois de plus, être une artiste unique en son genre. Entendre, ou encore mieux, voir, Sonia Soul chanter une de ses créations se présente comme étant une expérience des plus intimes.Restez aux aguets car ce bijoux rare de Montréal se montrera sûrement bientôt sous vos yeux, bercera vos oreilles et fera rayonner votre esprit de joie...! |
