I play music. My first band was a 3 piece from San Mateo, CA called VINTAGE 46. I sang and played guitar, we mostly played in our basement..but sometimes were lucky enough to play a friends house, and even sometimes made it to the local community center...or even the infamous Gilman St in bezerkley. VINTAGE 46 was short lived, just like adolescence...later, two of us went on to form a band called THE FORGOTTEN .... THE FORGOTTEN ...my blood. My sweat. My tears. We busted our fucking ASSES. And all for rollin' around in the mud and the blood and the beer. We too were products of a budweiser soaked basement, but this time we made it all over the world, and with vinyl and cd's to boot. Sometimes playing to only the local town drunks...and sometimes sharing the stage with GBH, Cocksparrer, or even Slayer...to name a few. Sometimes in minivans, sometimes on a bus, but always with 1000 percent energy and heart...and friends. I grew up on RANCID. I'm from the Bay. What do you do when your best friend calls you up and says Lars Frederiksen wants you to play guitar in his band? You say SHIT YES and drink yourself into a corner of disbelief. LARS FREDERIKSEN AND THE BASTARDS killed your town and fucked your mothers. Sometimes with mohawks...and sometimes with crank 'staches. Enough said. Then motherfucking Skinhead Rob calls you up and says Tim Armstrong wants you to play with TRANSPLANTS ...a band I already worshipped from just shoebox demos. Add the best drummer in the world and an abundance of originality...and once again you have people dancing...pogo-ing and beating the shit out of each other in a summer parking lot. Playing in 3 bands at the same time is a dream...and crazy...and hard. So naturally you go back to step one and play in one band. 'Step one...slit my throat...step two...play in my blood.' I started singing again full time and MERCY KILLERS was born. Step three, make a record... Now theres technology, so you receive an email this time. Travis and Mark from Blink 182 are starting a band and need a guitar player...what the fuck? As if it could get stranger than fiction at this point. One hour playing in a hot studio, a LOT of chain smoking and nerves...a few conversations in an atrium..and +44 have a fourth member. |
