Myspace Graphics (glitter graphics) The lights go down in the smokey club. The crowd capacity crowd cheers with anticipation. A voice sounds over the PA. It begins to skip like a broken record. "The bible is...the bible is..." the voice drones as the band takes the stage an powers into a fifty five minute aural assault. They stop ever so briefly to thank the crowd and maybe announce a song or two. The music swells and builds until it climaxes into an avalanche of sonic fury. The band storms off the stage. This could only be a show from Phoenix, Arizona’s own Autumn’s End. Every performance is similar to this. The emotion they emit is palpable. The rage, the hurt, the triumph, they will make you feel it. When they have left the stage you know they meant every second of it. You feel as though you have witnessed an exorcism. Autumn’s End was founded in late 2002 by former N17 guitarist Chris Cannella. He had become disillusioned with the musical direction of his previous projects and the music scene in general. He wanted to get back to his root and play what he loved....Metal. Chris worked relentlessly on the "Five Cycles of Discipline" EP. He would use this as a template to begin shaping the sound he was after. It would also be used as a recruiting tool to assemble his own Four Horsemen that would share his Metal vision. The demo was given to longtime friends Anthony DeJesus ( guitar) an Tucson native EL ( bass), whom Chris convinced to move to Phoenix. Chris had never played with these guys before. He had never even heard EL play at all, but he had a hunch and it would pay off. The last piece of the puzzle wouldn’t come so easily. It would take two "fill-in" drummers, a year of phone tag, and a chance meeting at a local pub to find the drummer they wanted. Another longtime friend Joey Kamka. With all the components in place Autumn’s End has evolved into a complete, cohesive, unit. Good musicians on their own, but together, create something entirely different. Something with a life of its own. A monster that plays with unrelenting ferocity and machine-like precision. The band are on top of their game more than ever. Autumn’s End have proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. They have helped fill a void of original heavy acts both on a local level, as well as relief from what is being passed off as " Metal" on the radio. They have proved that if you act with a certain amount of professionalism, that you will be treated as such. Also, that you don’t have to write cheesy hooks and songs about high school heartache to have a product that all can enjoy. It is this kind of strong work ethic and intense drive that has landed Autumn’s End coveted opening slots for such notable national acts: Arch Enemy, Hate Eternal, Kreator, Vader, Bleed the Sky, My Ruin, Body Count, Danzig, and Eyes of Fire. Also, it has garnered them endorsements with Jackson Guitars, Mesa Boogie, DR strings, and HBE Electronics. A luxury most band have after they have "made it". With the release of their self-titled 2004 debut, Autumn’s End seemed poised to take over the local scene and claim the vacant Metal throne. A seat they have truly earned. The album full of promise. It offers a glimpse of things to come. With their sophomore album "Act of Attrition" about to be released, Autumn’s End are set to step it up and take it to the next level. Melding such diverse influences as Johnny Cash, New Model Army, Savatage, Opeth, Messhugga, Fields of the Nephilim, Skinny Puppy, and Neurosis, Autumn’s End concoct a unique brand of Metal. Whether it be the Fade to Black-esque "Chaos Within" off their debut disc, the doom-tinged "Soiled Wings", or the epic sprawl of "The Dirge" Autumn’s End created a mood, a sound, all their own. When you hear them, there is no mistake. You are listening to an Autumn’s End song. Brutal riffs, thundering drums and bass, and tortured vocals give way to melodic acoustics, lush harmonies, and heartfelt lyrics that take the listener through the highs and lows of human emotion. Autumn’s End will bring you into the eye of the storm. Standing in the middle of the sound and the fury. They will leave you wondering if you’ve just been given a glimpse of your salvation or the Apocalypse. They will help you exorcise your demons.Look out world....Autumn’s End is coming!! - Carl Jenkins SLAM MagazineContact info: Rev. Reviews – Act of Attrition (Go to www.freewebs.com/desertcore for full review)
Metaleater.com – 9 out of 10 “AUTUMN’S END are a band that single handedly redefines what we’ve come to know about the North American Metal scene.”
Blabbermouth.net – 8 out of 10 “Put simply, "Act of Attrition" is one cool extreme metal album and proof that there are still a few worthy acts lurking in the U.S.”
RockMyMonkey.com – 8 out of 10 “Act of Attrition by Autumn’s End is a brilliant album. It is only a matter of time before these guys blow up in the scene.”
Obliveon.net – 9.5 out of 10 Review is in German.
Deadtide.com This album will easily appeal to anyone into thrash, melodic death metal, technical death metal, and even brutal death. This is some really good shit, plain and simple.
Apeshit.org This is easily one of the top bands to watch as 2006 winds down, and AUTUMN’S END should be headlining their own U.S. tours in the not-so-distant future if they keep up this kind of effort.
Zia Zine Issue November 2006 “If you’re a metal-loving maniac but you’re not into fashion-centric kiddy-metal bands who weren’t even alive when metal was as its peak in the 80’s, Autumn’s End is the bloodcurdling cure.”
Maelstrom.com “(Act of Attrition) combines a Satanic, black metal mentality with a more moderate musical style: some harmonized singing, slow, melodic guitar lines and down-tempo drumming fall among the harder portions.
Reviews - S/T
Metaleater.com – 8 out of 10 AUTUMN’S END may just be the penultimate American counter-response to the wave of brilliance flowing out of Sweden in the form of OPETH and others. Diverse, effective, driving, energized, dominating and enthralling, AUTUMN’S END embody the greatest aspects of American Metal and have spliced them in a collage of succinct brutality, thick and meaty rhythms, melodic tendencies and resonant acoustic beauty, resulting in a sound that is both instantly distinct and uncompromisingly compelling.
DefendersofSteel.net – 7 out of 10 Review is in Italian.
HardandHeavy.org – 4 out of 5 Review is in Italian.
Phoenix New Times The most promising band in the local metal scene. Autumn’s End keeps it dark and heavy, and pretty much exemplifies Arizona metal: shredding guitars and growling guys in black cowboy hats. Autumn’s End is a must for fans of Black Dahlia Murder and Lamb of God.
Crave Magazine This album is better than a lot of mainstream music out there. I think a lot of people could really get behind this album and support this band.
