Was wollt ihr? Einen heißen Schlitten, Cashmere Mantel, Kaviar, Motorboot? Oder doch lieber ein Mädel zum ….. lieb haben? Whaddaya want? Fragten schon die Cheers 1955 in ihrem Smashhit und ließen dabei die Petticoats und Bluejeans der noch keuschen Jugend der 50er durch die Luft fliegen, dass ihnen die Schamesröte ins Gesicht stieg.Von den Roaring Twenties mit ihren rollenden Bigband Swinghits und dem knorken Foxtrott über den stampfenden Rhythm & Blues, Jive und schmachtenden Doo Wop mit seinen durch Mark und Bein gehenden Vokal Arrangements und groovigen Rhythmen bis hin zum quirligen Rock’n’Roll und Twist deren Texte in den deutschsprachigen Versionen ganz besonders tiefsinnig erscheinen, lässt SAFE, SANE & SINGLE nichts aus um die Beine zum wippen und die Hüften zum kreisen zu bringen.Sie singen über Mädchen die A gesagt haben recht bald auch B sagen werden (Tea for Two) oder sprechen in ihren Liedern fremde Frauen an und fragen sie ob sie eventuell zeit hätten da sie gerade In The Mood wären. So vieles liegt den Dreien am Herzen aber manchmal haben sie beim Jump Jive and Wail einfach nur ihren Spaß am musizieren und singen von Lust und Liebe und einem schummrigen Blue Light Boogie.Im schicken Zwirn und geschmalzter Locke stehen sie da. Einer für die Tasten, einer für den Rhythmus singen alle Drei was das Zeug hält. Imitieren Bläsersätze und Bassläufe, solieren in allen Variationen und in jedem Tempo, mehrsprachig, vielsilbig und multikulturell.Wen wundert es das so manche ihrer Konzertbesucher hinter her behaupten sie hätten im Geiste Nat King Cole gesehen, wie er mit Louis Jordan und den Treniers eine Jamsession im Apollo spielte während die Mills Brothers und Paul Anka an der Bar versuchten mit Peggy Lee und den Andrew Sisters anzubändeln, als plötzlich Elvis Presley zum Fenster hereingeschwebt kam und Ted Herold ohnmächtig vom Bühnenrand kippte, glücklicherweise aber von Dean Martin aufgefangen wurde der ihm ein verständnisvolles „That’s Amore“ zuraunte. ************************************************************ *****What you get in your ears is NOT a piece of corny nostalgia. it's certainly NOT a tongue-in-cheek exercise of fashionable retro-chic. it's definitely NOT a cheesy go-go party filler for aged dancers. It's a lost-and-found spark of that long lasting fire burning up the streetcorners and juke joints of each US city sometime between 1940 and 1965: it's nat king cole and sam cooke driving down from hollywood hills in a shiny jaguar on their glorious way from the sidewalks of the ghetto to scintillating fame, it's the penguins and the flamingos outsinging each others at the apollo with eternals swirls of vocal splendor, it's little willie john taking out his sister mabel on a cold cincinatti night to explore unknown heights of soulful singing paving the way for james brown and aretha franklin, it's louis jordan and the trenier twins jumping like madmen on a trembling stage somewhere along the road in rural alabama, it's bobby bland and king curtis jamming with carl perkins and ronnie hawkins on the porch of the Sun studios down in Memphis the day sam phillips had a meeting with don robey caressing his gun in his pocket, ahmet ertegun, hy weiss and henry glover. man, how they rocked the house! listen to the echoes, shake and vibrate to the sounds of those UN-safe, IN-sane, definitely NOT single, but quite wonderful trio. |
