Music:Lot's of different things. People/bands who almost always work for me are Air, Brian Eno, mid-70's Bowie (when he was coked up and out of his mind), Hector Zazou, David Sylvian, Bjork, Sun Ra, the nice boys from Mr. Bungle, Roxy Music (first five albums), Ryuichi Sakamoto, Philip Glass, Claude Debussy, Tom Waits, Stan Getz, Suede, Cornelius, and Abba...to name a few. Generally speaking, I like anyone who makes stuff that I can't immediately recognize as something that's been done before. This is not to say that everyone I listen to is the first to do what they do, they're just the first that I heard. It's odd, I know. |

Movies:If it's heavy on eye candy, minimal in dialog, and has a good soundtrack I'll probably like it. I'm also a sucker for terrible movies. The best kind are what I call the "genetically bad movie" (there might be a better term for this, I'm not claiming profundity here), that is a movie that is so totally bad from its conception that it's impossible to imagine how it made it from treatment all the way to theatrical release. Almost like it managed to dodge every bit of good taste or quality control along the way. "The Animal" is a good example of this kind of movie. |
