| Thank you for the opportunity to share my art with you. Creating art started as a way to express the feelings I had no words for. The brush and palette became my voice and the stretched canvas my skin. Each painting has been a road map charting my journey through this life, from darkness into light. Creating art has been my lifelong healer. In July of 2000, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The book “Breast Heaven” is my cancer story. In colors, images, and words I express what it feels like to be a disconnected head and breasts in doctors’ hands. After the devastating loss of my breasts I gave them wings so they could fly to breast heaven. When all the surgeries were done and the cancer gone, I was supposed to be okay – good as new – but I wasn’t. I was and still am forever changed. Grateful to be alive and afraid of the next oncology appointment. Everyone’s breast cancer story is a little different but the fear, the vulnerability, and the powerlessness are the same. It is my wish to share my book with other breast cancer survivors as a message of hope and courage.
