I'd like to meet:The drawings of michal bendersky include portraits of pop/rock figures, and portraits taken from her personal world, such as close friend and self portraits. The portraits are the artist interpretation of visual images, existing artefacts like drawings or photographs, taken from the pop culture world. During the process the artist try to posses the image by destroying it, making it her own, charging the area between intimacy and publicity. The painting itself is a dialog between graphic and abstract drawing, while the image is a pop culture cliché and the technique used is a painting gesture cliché emphasizing the glory of melancholy. |
