Certains parlent d'ultimate comme de la dernière véritable rockstar, qui, dépassée par son succès, se serait peu à peu noyée dans la drogue et les excès divers. Cependant une autre théorie voit le jour, qui démarque définitivement Ultimate des Jim Morrison, Hendrix ou Kurt Cobain. En effet on connait son admiration pour Oscar Wilde, pour qui le génie esthétique se manifeste dans la vie et non dans l'..uvre de l'artiste. Ainsi on peut supposer que la déchéance progressive d'ultimate serait un choix délibéré purement esthétique. Cela expliquerait en partie qu'elle ait quitté l'université d'Oxford pour à peine quatre ans plus tard se retrouver pluritoxicomane.
