The Arse Klarts started life as a three piece band (Barry, Dean and Scott) working and writing together for what was originally “a bit of a laugh”, they later introduced a fourth member (Ian West) who then made the already established three piece, the band they are today. The Klarts fundamental aim was to inject a lethal dose of humour into a very uptight and serious Sunderland music scene, The Klarts on the other hand had other ideas, and introduced an alternative sound into the ever growing region. The Arse Klarts eagerly awaited debut demo “Sounds of the Arse” sold over 70 copies in its first week along with over 100 downloads direct from the official website www.arseklarts.co.uk. The Klarts debut album “Don’t take shit so serious” released in October 2005 sold 164 copies with in two hours of it’s launch. With major influences varying from Tenacious D to Paul Simon, a versatile and adult orientated sound was created in a self-named genre of “Spunk rock”. The Arse Klarts lyrically fuelled rock tunes have seen the band go from strength to strength gaining a substantial amount of funding from the local arts council, along with rave reviews from professional A&R personnel Deb Wilde (Epitaph records) and Dave Cooper (Melodic records), at the Generator Head to Head demo jury held at Sunderland’s Quayside Exchange. The Klarts have played all over the Sunderland area and most of the other major venues around the North East, including festivals and university gigs in Sunderland and Middlesbrough. With an ever growing fan base, The Klarts are never short on support, and with their humorous lyrics and energetic live show, you can count on the Klarts to turn a few heads. The Arse Klarts are also members of www.ukbands.net, an online community growing in numbers every day with over 113,000 members worldwide who have voted The Arse Klarts at number 3 in the sites official unsigned music chart.
