| This band was found, as I recall, in 2000 by Heiko Lehmann, Sanne Möricke and Christian Dawid. A bit later Claudia Koch of Aufwind joined. Not for long: Christian Dawid and Claudia Koch left and the two remaining musicians decided to continue with a very good friend from England, though native Walisian: Merlin Shepherd. He joined and this was when SUKKE as we know it was born. Now that the three musicians came from three countries (D, NL, GB) they called the band "The European Klezmer Band." And in 2004 they published their first CD "Introducing: SUKKE" at World Music Network in London, more than 50% of the repertoire being original compositions, with original Yiddish songs from the long-term collaboration of Canadian writer Michael Wex (Born to Kvetch, Just Say Nu) and Heiko Lehmann. | |
