Catfish Blues Band: All Your Love by Sam Maghett Videos - Photos (English text at the bottom of page) Carlo "slidincharlie" Pipitone, cantante echitarrista blues. Vivo a Palermo con una splendida famigliola che supporta(e sopporta...) la mia passione per la musica e i sacrifici che a volte questacomporta. Comincio ad ascoltare blues verso i 15 anni, e provo subito ainterpretarlo e riproporlo con lachitarra acustica (una dreadnought giapponese Morales che miha accompagnato, anche sul palco, per oltre 25 anni). L'interesse per il blues diventa sempre piu' intenso, e cosi'divento un attento ascoltatore e studioso di questa musica, dicui approfondisco la conoscenza - attraverso dischi e libri -esplorandone tutti i territori, dal country blues piu' arcaicoagli stili piu' moderni e sperimentali. Le mie preferenze diascoltatore e il mio approccio di musicista sono pero' legatiagli stili piu' tradizionali del blues rurale e urbano, e comeperformer mi esprimo principalmente nell'ambito del Deltablues e del Chicago blues. Nel 1996 inizio un sodalizio con l'armonicista Antonio Covais,con cui do vita ai "32-20", un duo acustico tuttora attivo: sitratta della formazione di blues acustico piu' longeva esignificativa della Sicilia, e probabilmente una delle poche inItalia ad essere rimasta in piedi immutata per un periodo cosi'lungo. Il duo interpreta brani della tradizione country blues,Delta blues e Chicago blues. Senza abbandonare il duo, nel 2004 fondo con Giuseppe Minolfo la Catfish BluesBand,un quartetto (chitarra/armonica/basso/batteria) che basa ilsuo repertorio sul Chicago blues degli anni '50/'60 e qualche puntatina nelsanorock'n'roll se la situazione dal vivo lo richiede. Queste sono le due formazioni: - 32-20: Carlo Pipitone alla voce e chitarra(acustica e National) e Antonio Covais all'armonica e alrubboard. - CATFISH BLUES BAND: Carlo Pipitone voce echitarra, Giuseppe Lanza voce e armonica, GiuseppeMinolfo basso e Giuseppe Buscemi batteria. Con queste due formazioni suono da anni in giro per la Sicilia:principalmente in pub e piccoli locali, ma anche a festival erassegne: Jazz & Blues Summer Festival 2004 (Ficuzza), Blues Mama (Palermo2005), Capo d'Orlando inBlues (2001 e 2006, opening act per la Treves Blues Band), 1° maggio 2006 aVilla Piccolo (Capo d'Orlando), Blues in Action (Alcamo 2007), Blues Band onStage (Siracusa 2007), Etna Blues Festival (Mascalucia 2007, opening act perJoe Bonamassa). Adoro usare spesso il bottleneck, sia alla chitarra elettricache alla National. Il suono elettrico che prediligo e' quello"vecchio", caldo e sporco tipico degli strumenti vintage. He started listening to the blues when he was about 15, and acouple years later he started to play it on the guitar. Hisinterest in the blues has become deeper and deeper, and he hasbeen exploring all blues styles on records and on bookessays. Carlo loves the blues in all its forms, but has a strongpreference for acoustic and electric traditional styles,especially Delta and Chicago blues. Carlo plays the blues in an acoustic duo and in anelectric quartet: - 32-20, featuring Carlo on guitars and vocals, plusAntonio Covais on harmonica and rubboard. Delta/countryblues with a little acoustic Chicago blues. - CATFISH BLUES BAND, featuring Carlo on guitars andvocals, Giuseppe Lanza on harmonica and vocals,Giuseppe Minolfo on bass and Giuseppe Buscemi ondrums. Ourstage list includes mainly Chicago blues covers plus a coupleoriginal blues songs. Carlo plays mainly the bars and clubs of western Sicily, andhas participated as a performer to several blues shows andfestivals.
