"Using Binoculars to Look Within"

STATEMENT

Jimmy Bleyer is a rising Los Angeles artist whose work documents the search for meaning and emotional context in everyday and dreamland occurrences. His spiritually charged world is portrayed in acrylic and spray paint, with loose brushwork on carefully selected, often reclaimed woods or fine canvas. In contrast to the energetic feel of his work, he is a contemplative painter, approaching his work as a meditation. He presents women in heightened emotional states, dissolving their surroundings into an abstraction infused with the energy of their 'subtle bodies' and the natural wood grain beneath. The resulting work presents an open context to be plugged in by the individual viewer. At once romantic, mysterious and illusory, Jimmy’s enigmatic work is featured in numerous collections across the US.

In addition to his residency at the Hive Gallery, he is co-founder of the beloved guerrilla print company Lost Cause Society with Walt Hall and is a regular fixture at art events and galleries across Southern California, most notably Cannibal Flower, Create:Fixate, Hyaena Gallery, Truxtop Gallery, Monkeyhouse Toys, Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art and the new ISM: Gallery.
