About Me


CANECA is a staple of the MPB scene, having played live and in the studio with artists like Ivan Lins, Marisa Monte, Cesária Évora, Emilio Santiago, Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso, Moraes Moreira, Zélia Duncan and Vanessa da Mata. His experience as a sought-after sideman led Caneca to his first CD, released in 2004. It was a tribute to the great folk composer Canhoto da Paraíba, who's also a legendary left-handed acoustic guitar player. Versatile and fluent in samba, choro and bossa as well as rock and roll, Caneca maintains a hectic schedule, playing alongside Arthur Maia and Paula Morelenbaum as well as Cesinha and Fernando Nunes, as part of the instrumental trio Flenks..

Influences: Here you can listen to Moraes Moreiras` band playing "Spok Frevo Spok", a song recently composed by Moreira and Fernando Caneca. Moreira wrote the lyrics about the "power" of Frevo ( Folklore from Pernambuco ) and about a great frevo group called "Spok Frevo Orquestra".
