So you want to know about Jeff Drake... Episode 62 of Seinfeld probably says it best:
Elaine: Hey, how are we gettin' to Drake's party on Saturday night?
George: I don't even like Drake.
Jerry: You don't like the Drake?
George: Hate the Drake.
Elaine: I *love* the Drake.
Jerry: How could you not like the Drake?
George: Who's the Drake?
Jerry: The Drake is good!
Kramer: I *love* the Drake!
But who listens to or agrees with George Costanza anyway?James Zabiela loves the Drake; he even gave Jeff props in IDJ Magazine as an up and coming DJ to look out for. Even Sneaky Sound System love the Drake; putting it simply in an article for Out In Canberra: “We love Jeff Drake, he’s rad!”The Chinese Laundry loves the Drake. Whether it’s playing big room party sounds in the Laundry or getting dirty, twisted and techie in the Cave, the Drakehood is always out in full force as Jeff delivers week in week out every Saturday night at Australia's best underground venue.Other promoters and venues love the Drake; with Jeff regularly stopping by the likes of Moulin Rouge, Sounds On Sunday and Ivy in Sydney, Family in Brisbane, Academy in Canberra, Perth, Hobart, Auckland and the list goes on. Recent appearances: Good Vibrations Festival 2006 and 2007, Renaissance @ Chinese Laundry, all Ministry of Sound tours Canberra, Future Music Festival 2006, Two Tribes and more.Other DJs love the Drake, with his production creeping into record boxes the world over. Jeff’s ‘Rollover Rockstar’ (with Nash T – recently released on Vicious Vinyl Australia) went Top 20 in the ARIA Club Chart and stayed there for a staggering 10 weeks. Its since been included on 4 compilations nationally. His breakbeat collaboration with Jaytech ‘Tequila Mockingbird’ has been receiving heavy DJ support from the likes of Hybrid, Nick Warren and Paul Van Dyk, while James Zabiela described Drake & Jaytech’s ‘Jaegermonster’ by simply saying “I f*cking love it” via text message before dropping it to a capacity crowd later that night on his Australian tour! Drake & Jaytech’s latest offering ‘One Dress Two Legs’ has already found its way onto the latest Good Vibrations 2007 CD and has recently been signed to UK label Kitschy Records for a mid 2008 release.Record labels love the Drake, with his debut mix compilation ‘Summer Festival Guide 07/08’ being released in January 2008. Representing the sound Australia’s festivals, Jeff’s night disc featured tracks and remixes from heavy hitters Herve, Switch, Daft Punk, Justice, Kissy Sell Out, Jeff’s own productions plus more. Musically diverse and rich is moments for the underground and dance floor, the CD has already received fantastic reviews and support.Touring DJs love the Drake thanks to his reputation for “…providing brilliant warm ups and having impeccable taste in music as well as his impressive technical skills and ability to create a musical experience to cater any dance floor” (Mark Davies, inthemix.com.au interview). Recent supports include: Groove Armada, Faithless (LIVE), Deep Dish, Danny Howells, James Zabiela, Carl Cox, Hybrid, Trentemoller and the list goes on and on and on…Sydney playboys who throw lavish parties that are considered the highlights on the social calendar and the party goers that attend love the Drake. It was at the 5th Birthday for the Establishment (one of Sydney’s most exclusive hotels) that Jeff's 2 hour set turned into a 6 hour marathon that saw him pack out the electro mash-up room with revelers so much so that the music in the other rooms was stopped and Jeff’s set was played across the entire venue.Punters, DJs, artists and lovers of great dance music love the Drake, with his club night Friction being named ACT Club Night of the Year in 2006 and 2007 while also being rated in Australia’s Top 20 club nights by Juice Magazine (August 2002 Issue). Jeff is also responsible for large scale festival events in the ACT, with Foreshore Summer Music Festival voted Best Event ACT at hte 2008 ITM Dance Music Awards. But most importantly of all, audiences love the Drake. The most recent Technics/ITM Australian Top 50 DJ Poll saw Jeff voted into the Top 50 DJs in the country and Top 20 DJs in New South Wales. In previous years Jeff has consistently found himself amongst Australia’s Top 50, including holding down the number 1 spot in the Australian Capital Territory when he lived there.Fanfare aside, Jeff Drake is a top quality DJ who has earned the respect of his audience and peers alike.
