They are buying the polish horses destined for slaughter and selling them off here in the UK 2. Horses and ponies are drugged before being shown to a prospective buyer to conceal behavioural problems. These horses have subsequently caused accidents to adults and children after the horses have been taken bought, and the drugs have worn off. 3. The dealer only shows buyers the stables at the front of the yard, and not at the back, where horses are in stalls where they cannot turn around or lie down It has come to my attention that a horse dealer's yard here in the UK is selling off their unsold horses on a regular basis at a horse auction...Many of these animals, who have been, in some cases, handed over by owners who have been under the impression that the dealer will ensure the animal is to be sold to a good home, but the reality is, if they are not sold to a private home, they will be sold for slaughter. I had reports that in most cases, these horses are unwell with heavy worm burdens. I decided to take a look for myself. I can only describe the place as a shambles, where they brought the horses out for me to 'try' as if they were products on a conveyer belt, they just kept bringing them out, so desperate were they to make a sale. These people have seemingly no concern for the animals, and all the horses I saw were clearly infested with worms and looked generally unwell. I am not a vet, and therefore, cannot make a medical diagnosis, but I know a sick horse when I see one. I have had reports too of constant outbreaks of Strangles at this yard. (a highly contagious disease in horses) This yard is named in the auction entries. I cannot post them here, but if anyone would like to see the entries, please let me know. In early March 2007, we will be attending the horse auction where these dealers sell off their unsold horses. We will be outbidding the meat man for as many horses/ponies as we can possibly rescue. We need to raise awareness now in order for us to accumulate the funds and help needed. We desperately need your help with the following: • Funding for: • Ensuring safe and efficient travel to a safe and secure foster home. • Vet fees • Farrier fees for immediate foot care • Worming pastes • Feed and Hay • Bedding When we place an unwanted horse or pony into foster care, we cover most of the costs of the equine's keep... Many of the animals we place have been neglected and desperately need farrier visits, vet treatment and wormers. And as they have been uncared for, they often need a programme of treatment for their feet, worm burdens and vet treatment, to bring them back to full health. Providing this for horses and ponies doesn't come cheap, and we need help!! Please help us to rescue some of these horses and ponies. No matter how small the amount, it would help!
