My Interests

Music:

Band Members: GENERAL MUSIC NOTES: Whose playing? Well, just me and the dogs howling and neighbours complaining in the background most of the time. But, seriously, if you listen hard on 'For All the Days' ( when it's on this space) you'll hear 2 bass players. The plodder is me - the more adventurous one is a young dude by the name of Max Sterling, who takes his music very seriously. He's out and about playing jazz and blues most of the time, but just occasionally we get together and things happen!I've been messing about on guitars on and off since I bought my first one for the princely sum of £8.00 in 1964 (when I was 15) and I'm still learning - when I give myself enough time. I've currently a collection of five acoustics of varying age and quality and do try and get out around the local open-mike sessions up here in the north-west of England. I've discovered so many good musicians recently on My Space, many of whom have no recording contracts. But this is what real democracy's all about and you can listen to good music all day and all night if you want!MAGIC EYE VIRTUAL GUITAR SHOP The 3D illustrations on this site were all produced using Google Sketch-up, an amazing little programme for producing quick but accurate models. The Magic Eye Guitar Shop is virtual only with no plans at present for putting the guitars into production. Of course, if I get some interest, I might just start taking virtual orders! Watch out for more designs!A LAKELAND DIARY I'm fortunate in living just an hour's drive from the centre of Cumbria and about 45 minutes from the Yorkshire Dales. Fell walking has long been a passion of mine, ever since I unwittingly joined the college mountaineering club when studying architecture in the late sixties in London. That is another story, suffice to say I quickly dispensed with the ropework (or 'dangling on the end of' to be more precise) and technicalities of rock climbing and opted for the more gentle approach of fell-walking. I've done a few peaks in my time, including Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon (twice, once extremely stoned and in fog!) and just for good measure, The Half Dome in Yosemite, California, in 1972, where a group of hippies following up behind me invited me to stay on the summit overnight and join them in an acid dropping party! Needless to say I declined their invitation!. That was my highest climb to date but it could have so easily been much higher but for the thought of soaring down a 3000 ft cliff without wings!! Since moving to north Lancashire in 1999, I've had every opportunity to get walking every weekend but this just hasn't happened due to family and business commitments. The very presence of good walking country virtually on my doorstep has also meant that I've not made definite arrangements to go walking often enough, simply because it's too easy to get up and go whenever you like, so I'm therefore always saying, yeah, maybe next weekend or next month but never actually getting it together. When I lived in the south, we would plan a definite trip north to the Lakes well in advance because it was more than 250 miles away!To combat this lethargy, I have now decided to book a day out each month, reddress this imbalance of activity and get up in them thar hills! It seems like a good idea to share my adventures with friends on My Space so you will find pictures and a brief commentary on each walk in pics (A Lakeland Diary Album) and on the second slide show. Any comments are welcome, especially if some of my descriptions of the walks are inaccurate! It would also be great to hear from other hill walkers/mountaineers and even the brave rock-climber or two, in both the UK and abroad, about their adventures.
