| Ishman Bracey (some 78's spelled "Ishmon") was an Early Blues Singer and Guitarist in the Mississippi Delta. He is Known to have associated and recorded with Tommy Johnson. He learned guitar and was already playing around in 1910(same time as Charley Patton). He played locally at dances and juke joints and worked a medicine show in the 30's with Tommy Johnson. Ishman's recording career is small, He only recorded 16 songs. Four of them are known in alternate takes. "Low Down Blues" and "Run to Me at Night," were apparently issued by Paramount, but have never been found. Original copies of Ishman's 78's are highly rare. He gave up playing music like other artists and was rediscovered in the 50's by blues scholars such as David Evans. He did not want any involvement with the blues and was a preacher at the time. But he did supply lots of information to researchers. He Died Feb. 12, 1970 in Jackson, Mississippi. |
