About Me |
|
| The Power of County brings the success and failures of turn of the century boomtowns into the forefront of their music. Highly reminiscent of days gone by with lyrics that reflect chaos, excess, lust and murder mixed with hard hitting rock n roll that is guaranteed to make any spectator want to buy a horse and start brandishing a six shooter. Four years ago D. Rives Curtright and Matthew Stark were two dudes in a purple, rented Malibu touring the west coast on a whim. Armed with only a banjo and a guitar, they bathed in the Pacific and nearly sold out of their debut 7" on Jealous Butcher Records (Decemberists, Made for TV Movie). Now the duo is augmented by a solid backdrop of drums (Andy), bass (J.Funk), pedal steel, and percussion(Clampitt). Shunning sandals and embracing red meat, this group of western dandies is proudly adorned in black leather vests emblazoned with the band's moniker on their backs. During the summer of O7, they successfully supported Jim Goad in opening for the national act Hank Williams III. Based out of Portland, Oregon the Power of County has been lauded by regional press as punk rock cowboys on a mission to bring Western back to Country. "For my money, Power of County is Portland's best classic country band. The players are nothing like a note-perfect re-creation of a Hollywood hoedown, all big grins and snappy duds. Ok, strike that-they've got the duds (sans snap), along with matching leather vests the boys made themselves. But that's just plain tough, as is the spirit coursing through their hard-ass blend of country, rock and bluegrass. It ain't always pretty, but that's what makes it classic. Outlaw classic." -Willamette Week P.O.C.'s new, third full length album "See You in Rock 'n' Roll Heaven" on the Union Records pays homage to the recently departed icons. They will be making a regional tour starting in April in support of their new album. This tour will be backed by a major national media campaign. for booking please contact powerofcounty@yahoo.com View The Power of County's EPK |
