| Originally formed in New Zealand in 2001 under the name "Like Flies On Shit" our aim was to create confrontational noise rock, after recording our first album we realised that we had transcended both the idea and name, so changed our name to "The Flies" something related but still ambiguous. We have continued and refined our original idea but have also included many more styles, influences and ideas into our music (noise, metal, drone/minimalism, psych rock, punk, classical....etc) We don't believe in musical boundaries, it's either good or bad, there is a "sound" that defines us but it doesn't limit us. In 2006 we relocated to London, and upon discovering there was another band called The Flies we changed our name to "The Insect Explosion" which we think suits us the best and we don't plan to change it again. In London we found new collaborators and have been able to record prolifically and extend our sound in new directions.We have kept our identity secret for good reasons, there are some who know who we are but so far no-one has figured it out, many people we know don't even know we do this. All of us have other musical projects, some of which bear no resemblance to The Insect Explosion.We want it to be about the music solely and not who we are, we are an entity rather than a band.It will all be revealed eventually, probably when we do our first live performance, which will happen.We aren't the noisiest, loudest or heaviest band in the world, but we do create fringe/extreme music, we have no desire to be commercial or popular, if you like it, cool! if not, then fuck off!
