Music:Member Since: 11/24/2006Influences: In 2008 hoopt Jean-Paul Pino zijn studie aan de Schumann-academie af te ronden met het staatsexamen conservatorium. De afgelopen jaren heeft hij zich bekwaamd in het spelen van jazzgitaar, na een veelbewogen edoch weinig vruchtvolle carriere als eclectisch popmusicus. Met de symfodelische freakrockformatie Frugifer (zie de 'vrienden' rechts op deze pagina), als zanger van het funkgezelschap Groove Syndicate, en als drijvende kracht achter het triphopproject Revolution 9, won hij driemaal de talentenjacht voor popbands 'de Roos van Nijmegen'. Misschien omdat zijn hart ligt bij het live musiceren, kwam hij nooit tot het opnemen van een CD met een greep uit de grote hoeveelheid muziek in uiteenlopende stijlen als pop, rock, ambient, funk, maar ook luisterliedjes en singer/songwriterrepertoire, die hij in de afgelopen 20 jaar componeerde (een ultieme poging hiertoe, met de powerrockformatie Scotty, bevindt zich ergens in een la in de Nijmeegse Bigmouth studio). Zijn grote veelzijdigheid werd wellicht zijn achilleshiel, en met het gevoel niet begrepen te worden door zijn medemuzikanten, keerde Jean-Paul Pino zich rond de eeuwwisseling af van een groot deel van de Nijmeegse pop- en rockscene (of was het misschien andersom?). In dezelfde periode vond Jean-Paul een hernieuwde verwondering over de kracht en schoonheid van muziek, bij het horen van de klanken van Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Duke Ellington, Wayne Shorter, kortom: jazz. Hij stortte zich vol overgave op deze nieuwe inspiratiebron en beleefde zo een tweede muzikale jeugd, waarin hij op zoek ging naar gelijkgezinde, gedreven en veelzijdige musici die deze muzikale veelvraat zouden kunnen bijhouden in zijn immer wispelturige zoektocht naar bezielde, persoonlijke klanken. Recentelijk is Jean-Paul Pino herenigd met zijn muzikale bloedbroeder van het eerste uur, Frugifer-drummer Martin (Belly Deep). Hun nieuwe band doopten zij LiQuish. De nu-jazz-, freefunk- en wie weet wat nog meer voor uitspattingen, die LiQuish voor ons allen in petto heeft, zullen weldra over de wereld uitgestort worden.
