About Me

Welcome, and thanks for stopping by!

Born and raised in Maysville, Kentucky, working his way to Indianapolis by way of Atlanta, Georgia, Dean started playing guitar at a young age. It started one evening when he was nine years old, banging away on his dad’s Kay guitar. Dean's dad showed him where to put his fingers to make a G chord, and he's been playing in G ever since.

Doc Possom of Indy Folk News writes: "Dean is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He is Reverend Dean Phelps, with no apologies, but although he's a Reverend, he's not very churchy. He is a regular guy with a fun repertoire, a relaxed manner, nice picking, and a friendly way of putting a song across!"

1978

I've been doing a little mastering on the CD from my past, mostly noise reduction to get the tape noise out of the way. I'm still amazed at how good a condition the tape is in. At any rate, I though...

So I listened to the CD that my friend PJ sent.  In a previous post, I mentioned the tape and CD as one of the intrinsic blessings that are part of being a musician and performer.  Figuring ...

The Back Porch

Some of the best music I've been involved in has happened on porches.  I was on a porch when a guy walked up and said, "Do you know there's a cat up on the roof?"  From that point on, "It'll...
