| Many people ask themselves :were does the name Hageland Hardcorecomes from and who used it first ? Well we can assure you , Capital Scum are the founders of Hageland Hardcore and the story begins end of 1984. The band came home after a concert that night and the van was really packed with instruments and people. One of our favourit bands(Agnostic Front) yelled through the speakers and everybody was singing along .Almost home and talking about the New York Hardcore scene and the fine logo they had , we thought we could do the same in Belgium. Driving into that particular section of our country we live, the plate along the road said it all : HAGELAND. Putting a link between our music and our region, we came up with the name HAGELAND HARDCORE. That time our friend and manager W.Exelmans was putting a recordlabel together and called it :Hageland Records. Meanwhile the Scene in Scherpenheuvel was really growing fast and an Italian artist called DUMBO drawed a nice looking HH-logo with slammer. HAGELAND HARDCORE is still used after all these years and we are proud we stood as standards for the younger generation.Two brothers, Larrie and Pies, started to form CAPITAL SCUM in the late 70s. Larrie came up with a guitar and Pies started screaming over the Noise.That time a rhythm section was very needed and Sox joined the band on drums.At the nearby city Diest, a bassplayer called Gunther was founded and rehearsals took place every week.Werner,another friend from us started EXTREME NOISE fanzine and putted up our first show with several bands. Dirk Michiels from 'PUNK ETC' signed us after our second show and recorded 5 tracks for ALLE 24 GOED compilation . After recording these songs Gunther was replaced by Jurgenowski.Capital Scum played all over Belgium and on a hot summernight when the van rolled home, a certain NEW YORK band blasted through the speakers. If Agnostic Front has its New-York Hardcore sound, we can also look for a good name for our music and HAGELAND HARDCORE was born (Sharphill is situated in the Hageland region of Belgium).Werner E. also in the van and that time manager of the band started with his own recordlabel HAGELAND RECORDS. He signed CAPITAL SCUM in 1985 for their first EP: CLUTCH THE FLAG ( 5 tracks). Recorded in Amsterdams biggest squatplace EMMA. At the same time we recorded a track(ROADKILLER) for the EMMA compilation.A full Lp :TSJERNO KILLS came out in 87 (10 tracks) and after a few gigs Pies was replaced by VARK . SIDE BY SIDE a track from the LP was re-recorded with VARK and put out on an American release WAR( ep where also PRONG appeared ) The band played another two years and than called it quits.The Hageland Hardcore scene was very popular and many foreign bands played in SCHERPENHEUVEL . To name a few : Government Issue-Death Angel-Spermbirds-Eardamage-TSOL-Suicidal Tendencies-Atitude-Scream-MDC and lots more.At a point nobody expected it : it happened ! In 2002, Capital Scum returns from the grave after 14 years of silence in the "classic" line up Larry,Pies,Jurgenowski and Sox. The band starts playing live again,old and new songs. The "old" die-hard fans witness a good old hageland hardcore show.In 2003 the band recorded a new 7" Freakshow. This ep was released by (their good friends Marcel,Ludo & Poef) Rocknrollradio.Jurgenowki has lots of work in his private life and gets replaced by HP, also a childhood friend of the other bandmembers.In April 2005, CS released their first CD : "100% Guilty". The respons from the fans and the press is great. In the meantime, a lot happened : Allmighty sox is replaced by SEGER and HP is replaced by Seger's brother "JASPER"The 2 original oldies are trying to keep up with the 2 youngster. Go check them out and give them great support.....October 2007 Jasper leaves the band and Jakke from Roll The dice takes over the bass...2008...Fonne (also a member of Roll The Dice)joins the band on drums...check out this final line up !!...you never know when the MONSTER dies... | |
