| I am a percussionist, filmmusic- and theatermusic- composer, as well as an author of radioplayes and documentary films. Musically i am based in the Berlin jazz-and worldmusicscene. I am founder, leader/co-leader of different national and international worldmusic and jazzbands. I am traveling continiously to Brazil and worked and recordet with different brazilian musicians such as Paulo Moura, Jorge Degas, Bocato, Gabriel Improta or Dom um Romao. During the last years i also traveled a couple of times to India to perform and record with Tanmoy Bose..s (Ravi and Anoushka Shankar..s tabla player) projectTaalTantra. My first recordings i did in the mid 80..s with „Die Elefanten“. With them i met the legend Teo Macero, who produced our second album. Since then i recordet as a guest artist with musicians/bands such as Waldemar Bastos (Angola), Paulo Moura (Brasil), Mia (Germany) or did various productions with my own bands (Materia, Xiame, Shank). My first solo CD „DAILY STORIES" came out in 2001 on United One Records . Meanwhile I did various audio art radioplays for german broadcasters, composed filmscores such as „Sheherazade“ for the famous german crime series „Tatort“ and did some theatermusic in Switzerland , Dresden and Berlin. Beside my drumming which is very much influenced by brazilian percussion I would describe the music i compose as „imaginary music“. It is using sound, ambience, melodies and rhythm mostly to create inner images. Close your eyes and you will see pictures and landscapes be screened on your inner eye. At least,that..s my goal. Hope i succeed with it once in a while. Together with my friend Jorge Degas and two german singers (Nina Ernst and Sahrin Rezai) we rediscovered and arranged old german folksongs in a very brazilian and afrobrazilian way. The CD „HEIMAT, VON FERN SO NAH") came out in December 2006 on Piranha Records . My second solo CD „CLOSE DISTANCE“ was released in May 2008 on Nabel records . Also i recordet and produced recently TaalTantras second Album „THE SIXTH SENSE“, which will be released on Ozella music in spring 2009. So i like very much the music of Bob Moses, Pat Metheny, Jon Hassel, cinematic orchestra, Sidsel Endresen, Bugge Wesseltoff, Joni Mitchel, Kip Hanrahan, Bach, Strawinsky, Satie, Nik Bärtsch´s Ronin, Michael Rodach.... . I love brazilian music, especially when it follows the antrophagic manifest as bands and artists like Karnak, Tom Ze, Lenine (who does it differently) do. And i really adore Nana Vasconcelos and Joao Bosco. The best show of brazilian music i saw recently was Carlos Malta´s „Pife moderno“ This was pure soul. Try to be honest, when you perform and compose. Don´t fake, because a lot (too much) in our modern world is a fake. Sounds Like: me!
