About Me

CHECK OUT FELLSWOOP!!! The Keystones are no longer!!

PROMO CD REVIEWS..................................................... ..............
JP and the Keystones are the real deal. JP and the boys take the back-woodsy tones of the Old Crow Medicine Show and cranks up the “down-home” to eleven. The air of authenticity drapes over this music like a thick wedding cake icing; sweet and pure. Heartfelt numbers like “To Dream” and "Let It All Burn" hauntingly recall rural struggles of the poor and dispossessed while filtering it through a wire mesh made from the memories of Buffalo Springfield. If you want to get “back home” (even if “home” is really a duplex in the Philly burbs), then JP and the Keystones will magically transport you there. Travel with them down the slowly disappearing rural routes of Pennsylvania through the coal regions and into the forest where time stands still and music means salvation.
- Ed Ballinger of the band SLACKS

The roots folk/bluegrass sounds he creates are raw and un-nurtured, and purposely or not, the sound is real (which is good).
-PULSE WEEKLY

John's original folk/bluegrass project, J.P. and the Keystones, features his banjo, mandolin and acoustic guitar playing, as well as rootsy vocals that evoke a simpler time. If you are seeking a unique sound from the local music scene, look no further!

FULL LENGTH REVIEWS..................................................... ....................
"...computers certainly have cheapened music, and I get the feeling that the band are trying to put the heart back into music by strumming acoustic guitars and banjos. His blend of folk and bluegrass is as organic sounding as sitting with the band and listening in real life. Good stuff."
-PULSE WEEKLY, July 18, 07. 4 out of 5 stars.

The style has folk melodies played over the steady bass line while the mouth harp adds a texture that works well with the jangly-ness of the banjo. It has an off-the-cuff feel to it, like a bunch of dudes making music around a camp fire in the great smokey mountains or something. -MUSICNATION.COM, August 7, 07 a
