Founded October 30th 2001, The Manhattan Metalfest is Manhattan, Kansas' premiere metal festival. Mostly because it's the only one. But if there were others, they would bow to the fortitude of the Manhattan Metalfest! The brain child of two motivated bands, the festival was started because no venues in town wanted to book metal bands. So we found a way to make them. Using all the resources at hand, sponsors were gathered, prizes were awarded and a commemorative shirt was printed. Since that time, the tradition has continued every year. The list of bands is massive. It includes the first line-up of The Bearded Assholes, Condition 13, The Broken Bone Coalition, Pins and Needles and Strange Unit. Other bands to take part in the festival have been: Puke Weasel, My Ruin, Jacknife, Dryline, Unmerciful, Diskreet, Terror Tractor, Decimation, Sorrow By Truth, Descendants of Cain, She Killed Poetry, Cause For Retribution, Torn Apart, Dreamscrape, Clocktower Project, Counterweight, Thrust and Zero Cell. If you live anywhere near Manhattan, Kansas and haven't seen the Manhattan Metalfest... well you're just a big loser.
