As of the year 2008 the band Placebo consists of Brian Molko (lead guitarist and vocal), Stefan Olsdal (bass and backing vocal) and Steven Forrest (drums).
Steve Forrest took a place of the former and very much missed Placebo's drum player Steve Hewitt. We still have a photo album dedicated only to him in our pictures section.
Placebo was founded by Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal who met by chance in London in 1994. While briefly known as Ashtray heart they soon settled on the name Placebo. (a substance a patient accepts as medicine or therapy, but which has no specific therapeutic activity, any therapeutic effect is thought to be based on the power of suggestion and mind.) The singles "Nancy boy" from Placebo and "Pure morning" from Without you I'm nothing both charted in the British top ten and were at that time the peak of their success. The band was asked to play at David Bowie's fiftieth birthday at Madison square garden. The band also played "20th century boy" live along with David Bowie at the Brit awards show in 1999. Their amazing album Without you I'm nothing was recorded and released the same year where David Bowie duets with Brian Molko. In the autumn of 2004 Placebo released Once more with feeling, a singles collection and they played a one-night-only gig at the crowded Wembley arena. Their latest album Meds was released on March 13th 2006 and in two years since then they toured almost the entire world leaving their ever so devoted fans longing for the next studio album.
Placebo is considered to be one of the most controversial rock bands of their time due to the sexual orientation of its members and the fact that they have always been open about the use of recreational drugs. Either way you chose to go Placebo is a band for open minded outsiders, their gigs are packed with devoted fans from all over the globe. Placebo's fans have often been called a bit obsessed and labeled as the most devoted and loyal fans that ever walked the earth. Whatever you may wanna call us we are proud to be the fans of the world greatest band that represents not just the music but the whole lifestyle and perception that might be a bit different from what majority considers to be normal. We are devoted and loyal and we love and live for Placebo. In case you decide you wanna join us there's always room for more.
