| ***CURRENT EVENTS*** ******************************************** The duo Merzouga´s Commissions for 2007 and 2008 include music for a radio-play production of Bernard-Marie Koltés "FLUCHT ZU PFERD BIS ANS ENDE DER STADT" (premier on Nov 25, 2007) and the 50 minutes sound-composition "GOOD MORNING, RICKSHAW!" based on field-recordings of India both for nationwide German public radio DEUTSCHLANDRADIO KULTUR. ************************************************************ ***** Since spring 2007 Janko has been performing more than 30 shows of a theatreproduction of Aki Kaurismäki´s "I HIRED A CONTRACT KILLER" at THEATER INGOLSTADT. He´s featured live as solo bassist and as supporting actor. More shows are scheduled for February/March 2008.***HISTORY********************************************* ********** Janko Hanushevsky was born in Linz/Austria in 1978. At age five he started to play the cello and exchanged it for electric bass in 1994. He studied Jazzbass at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna from 1997-2002 and has been a student of Contrabassvirtuoso and composer PETER HERBERT for more than ten years. Since 2001 he has been exploring “extended techniques”, searching for different, unconventional ways of creating sounds on the electric bass. Janko has been playing numberless concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy mainly in contemporary jazz and free improvised music.Since 2002 he has been working with EVA POEPPLEIN (electronics). As duo Merzouga they perform concerts of free improvised music and compose music for theatre and radio play. Commissioned works include compositions a.o. for the STAATSTHEATER KASSEL and AKADEMIE MUSIKTHEATER HEUTE; in summer 2005 the German-Polish artist radio Radio_Copernicus commissioned the soundcomposition „BERLIN-WARSZAWA-EXPRESS“, based on field recordings of the two cities, that was also featured in DEUTSCHLANDRADIO KULTUR and was invited to the 4. Erlanger HÖRKUNSTFESTIVAL 2006 and to the UNSOUND FESTIVAL Krakow 2006. Janko composed music for theatre (solo electric bass) working as actor/musician and has been a regular member in many different bands, a.o. in the duo Otin with his father Bohdan Hanushevsky and with Derya Takkali´s world-music ensemble Derya & SanaBana Band.
