| Back in 2002 in Grünburg, Upper Austria, Manuel Rohrauer and Leo Wolfmayr gave birth to a musical project with a strong focus on Melodic Death Metal. Inspired by bands like Children of Bodom and In Flames they started covering tunes of their heroes and soon recruited their friend and school colleague Chris Hörmann on bass. In search for a man behind the drums, they coincidentally ran into Mike Pfaffenhuemer at the local CD-Store, and after hearing them perform he decided to join them. Mike didn’t only come up with a fitting band name, but also brought a shitload of riffs and ideas with him, which strongly influenced and enrichened the style of the band. Unfortunately Leo was forced to quit the band after their very first gig due to a Tenosynovitis in his left hand. The project MANDATORY was put on hold until the summer of 2005, when Chris, who drastically increased his skills on the guitar, decided to fill the empty part. After recruiting their longtime friend Max Hundsberger on bass, they started writing songs and recorded their first unnamed Demo, which however never surfaced in public. After playing a couple of gigs in summer 2006 they decided that it was time to record some of their own songs and began selfproducing 9 of them at their private studio in Grünburg. They baptized their accomplishments „CONCEPT OF CHAOS”, and received great reviews from fans and bands. In December 2006 fate struck the band again. Max could no longer fill in for the band as their bassist due to his commitment for his main band “Wydfara’s Prophecy”, and so, 5 years after the foundation of the band, the circle finally closed. Founding member Leo, who in the meantime recovered from his injury, rejoined MANDATORY. With the power of the four reunited, the Austrian Metal-Machine is at maximum warp and eager to spread its music all over the world.
