Having been brought up in Germany, Singapore and various places in Britain, then travelling to France (grape-picking), Tunisia, Corfu, and completing a road trip with my father across America (from Fort Lauderdale, through New Orleans, Dallas, and then Durango, flying into the Grand Canyon, and finally ending up in California ~ living in Los Angeles, Carmel, Monterey and San Francisco) I eventually married and continued my travelling. . . . Australia for two years, with holidays in Hong Kong and Singapore; yearly summer vacations to America, mostly South Carolina, but also Florida, Chicago, Tobago, the Virgin Islands and Bermuda. . . . . My dad's yacht, Wild Blue, becomes our home for the summer, and we turn into boat gypsies! . . . . Switzerland has become a new destination, having visited twice in 2006 ~ would love to ski again . . . memories of Glenshee and Aviemore are not so good (wet, soggy snow) but Purgatory in Colorado was magnificent ~ skiing in shorts and T-shirt in February month cannot be beaten! Not forgetting the Australian Alps and Mount Baw Baw. . . . Apart from sailing and the occasional opportunity to ski, snorkelling is fabulous ~ having swum with reef sharks on the Great Barrier Reef, baracuda in Tobago, turtles in Bermuda and manta rays off Virgin Gorda . . . life isn't so bad. . . . . And what a fantastic New Year (2006/2007)! Staying on Wild Blue in Vaca Key, Marathon, Florida, I fell in love with Key West, and Sunset Celebration. The crowds gathering on the quayside to watch the sun go down at the end of the day is cheesy, I know, but I love watching the ever-changing colours in the sky at dusk. . . . Islamorada, too, is so pretty: to celebrate New Year's Day at The Loreilei with a great group of friends, listening to some mellow reggae, exchanging gifts and sipping Bloody Mary's is perfection . . . (even if it was only ten in the morning!) . . . . Have just spent all of August 2007 on a fantastic vacation travelling up and down the East coast. We began in Raleigh Durham, and drove to Little River in South Carolina; a great place to be based. Later on we drove down through S.C and on through Georgia. We stopped over in Jacksonville, and then on to the playground that is Orlando. Four theme parks in four days! Typhoon Lagoon, Universal/Islands of Adventure, Busch Gardens and finally Seaworld. Exhausting, but my son loved it. Of course I managed to shop, and shop, and shop . . . . although I must say, I do actually prefer South Carolina, for the good ol' southern charm. Florida (or perhaps just Orlando),seems full of the push and shove crowd, who seem to be bereft of manners. I can't wait for the Hard Rock Park to open in Myrtle Beach this Spring, and sample the Led Zeppelin ride!. | |
