| James Johnson-Perkins is an international artist based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, UK. He has recently toured his Hal 9000 video piece, with ART EXPO, to major art spaces in the USA, Spain, Romania and Lithuania. He has collaborated on a Science/Art project with a Bio- Mathematician, Dr Conor Lawless with the rednile residency program, Sunderland, and had the first major solo show of his work in the UK at the King's Lynn Art Centre. Johnson-Perkins' artwork reflects a retrospective and nostalgic gaze at pop culture, exploring iconic imagery and play. Recently he has used materials and subject matter which have a resonance with his past and nostalgic experiences such as: Lego and 80's computer graphics and 80's TV programs. He is currently making a giant army of totemic Lego men, which he calls 'robots', scrolling message boards, supplanted with jokes, giant signs with a bold political messages, a series of Lego plaques with amusing statements and a dazzling array of films using 8 bit computer graphics and modernist geometric shapes.
