About Me |
|
| To understand Casual Reform, it is important to go back to the beginning…….Eric, Steve and Paul, met while attending Tombstone High School in Tombstone, Az in the mid 1990s. As the 3 graduated high school, in the year of our lord, 1996, they concocted a plot to meet girls and appear “cool” by pretending to be in a band. In a quick manner roles were doled out – Eric on drums, Paul on guitar and vocals, and Steve on bass – and “Vernin McGregor” was born.In the summer of 1998 Eric decided to move the project in a forward direction and bought a drum kit. Steve followed with a bass, and not to be left out, Paul purchased a guitar. Keep in mind, no one could play their assigned instruments. Spontaneous jam sessions began to occur (with no real music being played) and the desire to play real music was fueled. In December of 1998, Paul and Steve moved to Tucson, while Eric was attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. Paul met and became friends with a character by the name of Ed Willard. Ed, could apparently play guitar. Ed met Steve and Eric and true jam sessions erupted. While Eric was away at school the need for a full time drummer in Eric’s absence became apparent. After much trial and tribulation Paul and Ed met Brian Maddox, when he introduced himself to Paul by mentioning he heard Paul played guitar in a band. Paul and Ed introduced Brian to Steve, and real jam sessions ensued. Brian could not only play drums, but could play drums very well. What to do about Eric, the existing drummer? One day when Eric was in town, Paul talked to Eric about Brian and his abilities. Paul’s suggestion was for Eric to move up to vocals. With some trepidation, Eric agreed. All of the pieces started to fall into place. Paul backed off of guitar and Vernin McGregor was a band with 2 lead singers.Things progressed nicely and the boys began to play shows out and about in Tucson. In March of 2002 it was time for some changes and Ed and the boys parted ways. At this point Paul moved back to guitar and Eric became the sole singer. Several replacements for Ed were tried and finally the boys settled on Langdon Turk.Everything moved along nicely until early 2003 when it seemed the momentum had been lost. With much heartache and sadness, Vernin McGregor was laid to rest.In the early summer of 2005, Ed and Eric got together to hang out and catch up on old times. Ed broke out the guitar and Eric broke out the lyrics. A fantastic tune, titled “Tucson Sunrise” was born. Eric and Ed made the decision to present the new material to Steve, Paul and Brian. They loved the new material, and the boys remembered how much they enjoyed being a band, thus…..Casual Reform was born!Life and logistics continue to provide obstacles for Casual Reform, but with fierce determination they are triumphant. 2008 has brought a rash of performances and a new determination. The boys have their sights set on recording a full length LP, playing as many shows as possible and building a fan base by sharing their music with the world.-Peace | |
