A true sanctuary for abused, abandoned, exploited and endangered exotic Captive Wildlife, The Wild Animal Sanctuary is home to over 155 of the most magnificent creatures on the planet...African Lions, Tigers, Jaguars, Leopards, Mountain Lions, Servals, Bobcats, Coatimundi, Wolves and Bears. This unique refuge for Captive Wildlife is like no other...here, the Animals who have suffered abuse, neglect, abandonment, commercialization and exploitation get the "come home"...home to a wonderful safe haven that provides them with spacious indoor-outdoor living quarters, large habitats, the best quality food available, and lots of free time to roam and play and swim on the Sanctuary's 140 acres...and those most important ingredients to a happy life...lots of love, affection and interaction.Started in 1980 by Pat Craig, a 19 year-old college student who could not condone the euthanization of healthy animals by zoos and other facilities, The Wild Animal Sanctuary continues today as a shining example of the "right" thing to do for Captive Wildlife. Rescuing Animals in dire need, rehabilitating them with love and affection, and providing them with an exceptional quality of life, the Sanctuary also actively promotes public education - about the serious Captive Wildlife Crisis in America today - through presentations and educational modules. Over the years, law enforcement authorities and animal welfare agencies have consistently relied on The Wild Animal Sanctuary to provide a good home to Animals confiscated from illegal and abusive situations. After everything the Animals have endured before coming to live at The Wild Animal Sanctuary, it is the Sanctuary's commitment to provide a home where they can safely live in peace. The Wild Animal Sanctuary DOES NOT BREED OR SELL its Animals, nor are they used for commercial purposes. The Sanctuary is set up to allow visitors on a daily basis - but does so with an elaborately constructed viewing system, which protects the Animals' privacy and welfare. The Wild Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit sanctuary, funded primarily by generous gifts from people like you. The Sanctuary's annual budget of $1,200,000 (2007 est.) goes almost entirely to feed the Animals, to heat their compound in winter, and for facility maintenance. Rising costs, plus the ever-increasing number of Animals in need, make fund raising a constant challenge for The Sanctuary.*~*FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE VISIT*~* WWW.WILDANIMALSANCTUARY.ORG*~*TO DONATE ONLINE PLEASE GO TO WWW.WILDANIMALSANCTUARY.ORG*~*~*~DONATIONS CAN ALSO BE SENT TO~*~ THE WILD ANIMAL SANCTUARY 1946 WELD COUNTY ROAD 53 KEENESBURG, CO 80643 MyGen Profile Generator |

| Saving Captive Wildlife: Though we come from the deep forests, from the edges of deserts, from snowy mountain ranges, from dense wet jungles, we are now part of your community. Who are we? We are the cast-off, unwanted wild creatures whom man brought to civilization, bred and profited from, and no longer has use for...WE ARE CAPTIVE WILDLIFE...Lions, Tigers, Jaguars, Leopards, Mountain Lions, Bears and other Wild Species. We number in the thousands, and we are starving, cast-off, abused, abandoned, exploited, confined to tiny cages, illegally kept and traded and bred for profit - not Love. | |
I'd like to meet:The People Contributing To The Captive Wildlife Crisis: The People Who: - Keep approximately 30,000 Animals privately in the US - Keep approximately 7,000 tigers privately in the US - Who think a lion would make a good pet - Who keep animals in inadequate conditions where they have enlarged fluid-filled joints from being kept on concrete; urine burns on their feet from walking in their own urine and feces; bone deformities from poor diet; facial deformities from abuse - Breed animals over and over selling their cubs for profitCreate your own visitor map! |

Heroes:The Wild Animal Sanctuary is difficult to describe in words. It is a feeling of tranquility that drifts up from the Animals that envelopes onlookers to a point that even small children fall silent. Each of the Animals here has a name and each one has a story. These Animals have known little happiness before their arrival here at The Sanctuary, but here with room to run, swim and play, they are happy. In this comfortable setting, more than 150 Animals are enjoying the life they deserve. Here at one of the largest, most unique Sanctuaries in the country, you can easily see that every dollar donated goes to benefit the Animals. With 7,000 Tigers alone living outside the zoo system in the United States, the need for safe haven, such as this, is immeasurable. With continued support, The Wild Animal Sanctuary can not only provide the warm dens, food and medical attention, these Animals need, but continue their efforts to educate the public about The Captive Wildlife Crisis. Though large donations are important for The Sanctuary's survival, it also relies heavily on the $100, $50, and even $10 donations. There are so many causes that seem so unsolvable, but this one we can accomplish. This peaceful, educational, magical place, can only survive with our aid. Please join us in giving these Animals the happy endings they deserve. Support The Wild Animal Sanctuary for the Animals, for your children, and for yourself. Eddie was born to a pair of black leopards that The Wild Animal Sanctuary rescued from a pseudo-sanctuary called Tiger Rescue in Colton, California. When his parents, Sam and Gina, arrived they were very fearful of people and unfortunately Gina was pregnant. The Wild Animal Sanctuary does not breed (or sell) any of its Animals, so we had no nursery set up for cubs. The Craig family considered it to be in the little cubs best interest to raise the cub in their household. This is the shortened version of the Animal Planet show Growing Up. It goes through trials and successes throughout Eddie's life and how the bond that him and the Craig family established still lives on today.Eddy the Black Leopard ..
