UPPER In 2006 they found themselves added to the PIZZA OF DEATH v.a. Compilation "The Very Best of PIZZA OF DEATH", as well as added to the attention of many in the Japanese music scene. It seems that UPPER was finaly getting their due.. but it has been a long time coming... Frontman and bassist, Yuya, first formed the early incarnations of UPPER in 1999 in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Experimenting with styles from POP to METAL the band finaly found their niche in a comfortable spot somewhere in between, and in 2002 released their 1st album "In All Sincerity" from Japanese underground Hardcore Label "REAL LIFE RECORDINGS". An insanely unhealthy amount of live shows followed and the band was starting to make a name for themselves in their home ground Hokkaido. Shortly after Single release "Password", a slew of more live shows and a revolving door of member changes, in 2003 Yuya licked his wounds and started fresh in the Tokyo area. With a little trial, a lot of practice and the same grueling live habits, it wasn't long before UPPER was at a full comeback with the lineup we now know. "NOT OVER YET" is a testimony of such said perseverance and endurance. An intense mixture of melodic punk with splashes of crossover hardcore, their Pizza Of Death debut is UPPER's definitive album. However, for those who know- to know UPPER is to have seen an UPPER live performance. It's not over yet for UPPER.. no it's far from over, the saga continues with "NOT OVER YET" and there's a lot more where that came from. UPPER は、昨年リリースされた "The Very Best of PIZZA OF DEATH" に参加したことで一躍その名を轟かせたが、 結成は古く、９９年の札幌にまで遡る。活動 初期は POP な曲が多かったが、度重なるメンバーチェン ジや試行錯誤の末にメタリックなメロディッ ク・ハードコア・スタイルを築き上げ、屈強 のハードコア・バンドが割拠する北の大地で 己を磨いた。２００２年には、ジャパニーズ ・ハードコアの名門 REAL LIFE RECORDINGS 内のレーベルから、1stアルバム"IN ALL SINCERITY"をリリースし一気にバンドの知名度 上げた。それと同時に精力的なライブ活動 行い、彼らの評判は道外へも確実に広がっ いった。 その後、シングルのリリースもあったが、 バンドは相次ぐ脱退劇に見舞われ、YU-YA(Vo.B) は活動の拠点を東京に移した。そこで新たな メンバー探しをスタートさせ、再びバンドの 立て直しを図った。その後もメンバーチェン ジがあったが、そこで挫けることなく現在の メンバーと共に新生 UPPER をスタート、秩父・長瀞にて血のにじむよう な練習を重ね、今作のレコーディングに入っ た。 そんな並々ならぬ意気込みで創られた "NOT OVER YET" は、スピード感に溢れるメロディアスな楽曲 を核としながらも、PUNK ・HARD CORE ・METAL をクロスオーバーさせた一撃必殺の破壊力を 持ち合わせた作品が完成。 そして、特筆すべきは彼らの真骨頂である ライブパフォーマンス。独特のピーンと張り 詰めた空気とむせ返るような緊張感を会場中 に漂わせる佇まい。そして強靭且つアグレッ シヴなステージングに魅了される人も多く、 熱狂的な支持者を得ている。 いよいよメンバーも安定し、産み出された ７つの楽曲を手に彼らの新たなスタートの火 蓋が切って落とされる。 UPPER 1st Mini Album "NOT OVER YET" ( E-Card ) |
